Do you want to be a part of saving history?Do you want to be part of something bigger than you? Do you want to save history before it is to late? Do you like fixing or making things? Well, it you answered yes to any of the following things, then volunteering at a railroad museum may be for you.
Volunteering at a railroad museum is a very rewarding experience. Even if you are not a railfan you still might have experience in a relevant field like carpentry, machining, electrical, and many other areas. At the railroad museum I volunteer at I know some people that work in the repair shop who do it, not because they like trains, but because they like to work on machines. Also, any one with the will to learn and help are welcome to be apart of this. There are many different jobs at most any railroad museum, anything from gift shop operator, to shop crew, to, in some cases, even operating a real train. Like any job or volunteer there are ups and downs, but dominated by ups. As long you give your all you will receive a great education in many fields. For the railroad museum I volunteer click here. For my classmate's blog comments click here, here (has not been approved yet so it will not show up yet), here, and here (has not been approved yet so it will not show up yet). Here (YouTube) (parody on a TV show) is where the comments that I analyzed came from. Most of the comments that I saw had quotes from the video, and had some form of texting abbreviations in the post. Most also were one sentence or less, but some were more. Also, very few of them used correct grammar or syntax. Most of the people that were posting were not truly caring about what they were posting. One thing that I did see were the occasional comment that did not belong there, and were off topic. After googling myself I found information about me from a few places. One place I found information was in an article about the City of Chamblee's Breakfast With Santa 2013, which I volunteered at last year. Another place was the Blue and Gold news letter about how people get to school.
In this technology age it is easy to for hundreds of people to see one little thing you might have posted, and for it to ruin your life. In the three articles "College Prospects are Being Watched on Facebook and Twitter", "37 Percent Of Employers Use Facebook To Pre-Screen Applicants" and "This is How a Woman's Offensive Tweet Became the World's Top Story" they all show how one picture or a careless tweet can stop you from having a job, or could even get you fired. It is amazing how easily a potential employer could see everything about you and what you are, and have done. I believe that looking at a potential employee's Facebook or twitter is ok, as long as they don't go as far as asking for all of there passwords for everything they do. Also, I don't think that it is alright for someone to fire someone just because of a stupid tweet. We all do something stupid or careless every now and then, but it should not ruin your career, we are only human. Now since I do not have an active social networking account (Facebook or twitter) there is not as much for me to worry about, the only things I have to worry about is someone else posting something stupid about me. I chose this topic because people need to think before they make rules for schools. Also that school shootings are rarer than a lot of other types of violence in schools. The point that I want to make is that even though there are a lot more school shootings than ever, that there are a lot of other things that are dangerous to students on a day to day basis. Also that there are a lot of stupid rules and regulations for schools. I am showing just how stupid the regulations for schools are in a lot of cases. Also that we are worried more about shooters and terrorist attacks than school fights. The audience for the shooting part is mainly students, and the fire rules is for teachers. I chose a video because to me it was the easiest. I used satire throughout but mainly with sarcasm at the part where I am talking about the fire. That section is also an understatement. Also there is some sarcasm at the end where I say “COME ON AMERICA…”
In recent years more shootings have happened than ever before. The first school shooting was in 1996. 57 have been killed in school shootings in 2012 alone. There have been 45 school shootings since 1996. Even though it is impossible to stop students from getting hurt one way or the other there are bigger threats to student safety than shooters. All over the country there are hundreds of fights that injure lots of students each year.
There are many stupid school rules, and rules made for school. On a recent visit to Huntley Hills Elementary the fire marshal imposed some new rules which are very hard to enforce, and are plain stupid. Some of the new rules are that: nothing can be hanging from the ceiling, on flammable objects in the room, no fabric covered furniture, no papers on the wall, and everything has to be three feet from the ceiling. If you were to remove all of the flammable things in a class room you would be left with nothing except the floors and walls. It is just unreasonable to expect teachers to remove everything from the walls. The rules should be made more reasonable. Also each time they come they add more and more dos and don’ts.
