In recent years more shootings have happened than ever before. The first school shooting was in 1996. 57 have been killed in school shootings in 2012 alone. There have been 45 school shootings since 1996. Even though it is impossible to stop students from getting hurt one way or the other there are bigger threats to student safety than shooters. All over the country there are hundreds of fights that injure lots of students each year.
There are many stupid school rules, and rules made for school. On a recent visit to Huntley Hills Elementary the fire marshal imposed some new rules which are very hard to enforce, and are plain stupid. Some of the new rules are that: nothing can be hanging from the ceiling, on flammable objects in the room, no fabric covered furniture, no papers on the wall, and everything has to be three feet from the ceiling. If you were to remove all of the flammable things in a class room you would be left with nothing except the floors and walls. It is just unreasonable to expect teachers to remove everything from the walls. The rules should be made more reasonable. Also each time they come they add more and more dos and don’ts.
